Nonprofit Boards: How to Make Them More Effective
On Thursday 22 June, Giving Women hosted an online panel discussion on how to make boards of non-profit and organisations more effective. This topic clearly resonated with many.
We had a stellar panel of experts each representing a different point of view: that of board members, the employees who interact with board, and those who are dedicated to training and supporting boards to be more effective.
It was a rich and enlightening conversation, recognizing the challenges faced by both the board members and the organisations they “govern”. Our panelists highlighted that in addition to financial accountability and other technical competencies, there are also soft skills that are essential to an effective board. Trust, respect, listening, and a commitment to the mission of the organization were acknowledges as being non-negotiable for a successful partnership between board and the management team.
Our panelists were:
- Michèle Joanisse – Director of Fondation CHUV
- Carole Frampton de Tscharner – Organisational Development Lead, International Partnership Manager at PeaceNexus Foundation
- Étienne Eichenberger – Co-founder of Foundation Board Academy, President and Co-founder of Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, and Managing Partner at WISE
- Sarah Field – Co-Founder of Little Kickers Group and Director of Sand Dams Worldwide
We hope you will enjoy the recording.
