United for Children Burundi Bw'Uno Munsi - BURUNDI
UCBUM is an organization that works for the well-being and fulfillment of children: the term ‘Burundi bw’uno musi’, which literally means ‘the Burundi of today’, expresses a vision contrary to the popular term ‘Burundi bw’ejo’ or ‘Burundi of tomorrow’, by making the community aware of the primacy and urgency of children’s needs and rights. Their project aims to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) among young women and girls in Buterere, Bujumbura, through awareness, education, and protection initiatives. They implement community-based theater campaigns, leadership training, and the establishment of a GBV reporting and referral system. By engaging local leaders, educators, and social workers, they strive to create a safer environment where young women can advocate for their rights and access support services. Through this initiative, they seek to empower 500 young women and indirectly impact over 1,000 community members.

PeaceWomen Across the Globe (PWAG) is a feminist peacebuilding organisation based in Bern with international operations. PWAG supports women in conflict-affected contexts in their diverse efforts to build lasting peace.
Their work is based on a comprehensive understanding of peace. They define peace processes as all peacebuilding initiatives, formal and informal, that strive for transformative, structural change by tackling the root causes of conflict and violence before, during and after armed conflict.
This project is about “taking PWAG to the next level”. Their organizational development has led to a growing budget for the coming years. Until now, PWAG has benefited from financial stability, thanks to reliable funding from large and loyal donors, foundations, and the FDFA’s core and program funding (until 2023). However, they recognise that relying on a small number of foundations and donors creates a significant cluster risk and cannot sustain the necessary growth.

Lion Strength Community Based Organization - KENYA
Lion Strength community-based organization operates in the rural Turkana region of Kenya. It is dedicated to empowering rural communities and fostering sustainable development through its innovative approach of establishing “value villages.” They understand the challenges faced by the communities they serve and strive to address them by promoting social, economic, and environmental progress.
In a pastoralist community, sending young girls to school is the best way that they will be able to shape the future of the region in a positive way, rather than contributing to the demographic challenge, by early marriage and high birth rates. However, sending them to school also creates a promise that their lives will improve, and they can put the knowledge gained to use. Without abandoning the Kenyan school system, this program will give girls the extra edge to be leaders in the digital world of the future. In the words of Shuri, the girl tech hero of Black Panther movie, “Just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.”
